To provide a method for prolonging the lifetime of the ladle lining refractory for reducing damage at an initial time of operating by enhancing the strength of the hot refractory.
The method for prolonging the lifetime of the ladle lining refractory comprises the steps of supplying a gas containing aluminum chloride or a gas containing steam of oxygen in the state that an opening of a ladle 1 is sealed to fully fill the ladle 1 with the gas and then supplying the other gas into the ladle 1. In this case, the gas containing the aluminum chloride is reacted with gas containing steam to precipitate pores of an alumina magnesia castable to reinforce the refractory 7 of the operating surface side, thereby prolonging the lifetime of the refractory.
