To provide a method for promoting the photosynthesis of photosynthetic organisms, excellent in handling properties, using a CO₂ carrier which is high in CO₂ absorption, and has CO₂ releasing properties, and usable for reduction the amount of CO₂ derived from a small-scale disperse type emission source.

This method for promoting the photosynthesis of photosynthetic organisms includes a CO₂ absorbing process of producing a CO₂ carrier by making swelling gel which includes an element shown by following general formula (1) (in the formula, R shows a hydrogen atom or 1-4C alkyl group) absorb CO₂, and a CO₂ releasing process of supplying to the photosynthetic organisms, CO₂ which the CO₂ carrier releases at a growth temperature of the photosynthetic organisms.
