PURPOSE: To remarkably decrease the erosion rate of furnace refractories by providing raw material charge holes in the required positions in the upper part of a furnace wall and charging auxiliary raw materials and raw materials to be reduced through the holes during blowing.
CONSTITUTION: The raw material charge holes and chutes are added to a tapping side and a charging side as well in addition to the auxiliary raw material charge chutes on both trunnion side of the upper hood of the furnace for metallurgy, such as converter. A branch is provided between the upper adding hopper and charge chute and the auxiliary raw materials are continuously or intermittently charged during smelting reduction blowing from ≥4 directions. The auxiliary raw materials eventually flow down circumferentially the inside wall of the furnace without having large quantitative differences and the erosion of the refractories is suppressed in all the circumferential positions by the shielding effect thereof. The number of the raw material charge holes is required to be at least ≥4 directions, i.e., ≥4 points.
