A metallic article is provided having a first wall surface 104, a second wall surface 102 and a cooling hole 120. The cooling hole 120 includes a metering hole 122 that extends from an inlet at the second wall surface 102 to an outlet at the first wall surface 104. The method further includes: a step of exposing the first wall surface 102 of the metallic article; a step of applying a thermal barrier coating 200 that covers the first wall surface 102 and covers at least part of the covered outlet; a step of making the metering hole 122 be exposed by boring an outer surface of the applied thermal barrier coating 200; a step of removing the thermal barrier coating 200 from a trough part 126 of the outlet formed in an metallic article; and a step of forming a trough region on the thermal barrier coating 200, the trough region being extended from the trough part 126 of the outlet formed in the metallic article to be flush with the outer surface of the thermal barrier coating 200.
