In the method for purifying the organic matter comprising chlorocyclohexane and an organic component having a boiling point higher than that of chlorocyclohexane by steam distillation, the method for purifying chlorocyclohexane is characterized in that a condensate obtained by condensation of distilled steam is separated into an organic phase containing chlorocyclohexane and the aqueous phase at a temperature not lower than 50C but not higher than the column top temperature of a distillation column.
