To provide a method for purifying cyclopentyl alcohol, capable of effectively obtaining the cyclopentyl alcohol of high purity from a mixture containing the cyclopentyl alcohol, and to provide a method for producing the cyclopentyl alcohol.

This method for purifying the cyclopentyl alcohol comprises subjecting the mixture containing at least the cyclopentyl alcohol to extraction with a 2-5C glycol so as to obtain an extract, and then distilling the extract. The method for producing the cyclopentyl alcohol has a process for subjecting cyclopentene to hydration reaction with water so as to obtain the mixture containing the cyclopentyl alcohol, another process for separating an organic layer of the mixture from a water layer thereof and subjecting the organic layer to the extraction with the 2-5C glycol, and the other process for distilling the extract so as to isolate the cyclopentyl alcohol.
