Abstract:
PURPOSE: To purify isopulegol to the subject chemically and optically high-purity compound, capable of imparting the refreshingness, freshness and a cool feeling to an aroma of the perfume composition and excellent in odorless properties by carrying out the subzero treatment of the isopulegol with a specific subzero treating solvent.
CONSTITUTION: This method for purifying isopulegol is to carry out the subzero treatment of (A) the isopulegol consisting essentially of the (-)-n-isomer with (B) a subzero treating solvent consisting essentially of acetone and purify the component (A) to (-)-n-isopulegol of ≥99.7% chemical purity and ≥99.7% optical purity. Furthermore, the (-)-n-isopulegol obtained by the purification is preferably used as a component of a citrous perfume composition and the amount thereof used is 3-30wt.% based on the citrous perfume composition.
