Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a method for purifying HFC-125 by separating its reaction by-product, CFC-115, from the HFC-125 by an extraction distillation method without using a specific freon as an extracting agent, the separation of the CFC-115 having heretofore been difficult by a conventional distillation method.
CONSTITUTION: A method for purifying pentafluoroethane comprises removing CFC-115, an impurity contained in HFC-125, by an extraction distillation method using an extraction solvent selected from a paraffinic hydrocarbon, an alcohol, an ether, or a ketone, each having a standard boiling point (boiling point under atmospheric pressure of -10°C to 100°C.
