PURPOSE: To identify a microorganism existing in a specimen such as blood or urine rapidly, simply and in a high accuracy by culturing the specimen in a separated medium, suspending the produced colony in heptone and treating the microorganism with a detecting substrate in the suspension.
CONSTITUTION: A specimen comprising a clinical material such as blood or urine, a food or an environmental material such as water is applied to a separated medium, cultured, the produced colony is suspended in 1% casein peptone solution, a fixed amount of the containing a coloring substrate (e.g. p- nitrophenyl-β-Dgalactopyranoside), cultured at 37°C for a specific time, a microorganism existing in the specimen is treated with the coloring substrate, colored and the amount of the microorganism is detected by a spectrophotometer to identify the microorganism in the specimen rapidly, simply and in high accuracy.
