Title:
METHOD FOR RECOGNIZING HANDWRITTEN CHARACTER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3271646
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time of a handwritten character recognizing process and reduce the capacity of a dictionary.
SOLUTION: A user handwritten and inputs a character by using a pen, etc., through a handwritten character input device 10. A CPU 40 regards each of the segments constituting the inputted handwritten character as a set of dots and generates handwritten character information consisting of stroke information and relative position information. Here, the stroke information is defined with a set of pieces of coordinate information on the respective points constituting each segment in order from the 1st dot and the relative position information is defined with a set of pieces of relative position information on two adjacent segments in the order of the 1st and 2nd segments, 2nd and 3rd segments .... Then the CPU 40 reads handwritten character information out of the dictionary in a secondary storage 60, collates it against the generated character information, and outputs the matching or a character code close to it to a display device 20 and a printer 30.
