The method for recording an image comprises the steps of heating a thermal recording material obtained by forming a thermal recording layer containing a microcapsule enclosing at least one type of electron donative colorless dye and an acid clay as main components in an image-like state, thereby recording the image. In this case, 50% or more of an electron acceptive compound is an acid clay. And a weight ratio (total amount of the clay and the colorless dye) of the clay to the colorless dye contained in the recording layer is preferably 1:3 to 40:1.
