Abstract:

To provide terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol which are decomposition products in high purity by efficiently removing foreign materials even from polyethylene terephthalate products and/or wastes containing a metal derived from an esterification and/or a polymerization catalysts during production of the polyethylene terephthalate and solvents or chemical substances sticking thereto.

A method for recovering the high-purity monomers from the polyethylene terephthalate is the method to recover the products consisting essentially of the polyethylene terephthalate and/or wastes thereof and recover effective components. A hydrolysis reaction is conducted under 10-30 MPa pressure, 200-400°C temperature in the presence of water having ≤40 relative permittivity when the raw material monomers are recovered.
