Abstract:

PURPOSE: To separate metal aluminum as a metal component in a bath by dissolving scraps of a nonmetal-dispersed composite aluminum material in a halide fused salt bath and transferring the dispersed nonmetal component to the fused salt.
CONSTITUTION: A composite aluminum material containing a silicon carbide whisker as a reinforcing material is put in a fused NaCl-KCl bath, stirred, and dissolved so that the dispersed nonmetalic component such as silicon carbide is transferred to the fused salt. Further, fluoride such as NaF may be added to the NaCl-KCl fused salt bath. Thereby, metal aluminum can easily and simply be separated and recovered from the nonmetal-dispersed composite aluminum material.
