To provide a method for separating nickel contained in a spent catalyst in which nickel is supported on a carrier composed mainly of alumina from molybdenum, vanadium, etc., then efficiently recovering the nickel by a simplified process and further effectively utilizing the nickel.
This method for recovering nickel from the spent catalyst in which nickel is supported on a carrier composed mainly of alumina comprises the following steps: (a) a step of subjecting the spent catalyst to soda roasting; (b) a step of subjecting the resultant roasted matter to water leaching to elute molybdenum and/or vanadium in a liquid; and (c) a step of subjecting a nickel-containing leach residue after the water leaching to magnetic separation to separate and recover a concentrate composed of a magnetic nickel-aluminum compound oxide.
