Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for speedily and efficiently recovering a platinum group metal from a composite material.
SOLUTION: The method for recovering a platinum group metal from a composite material consisting of a carrier containing at least Al2O3, SiO2 or the combination thereof and iron, and the platinum group metal carried thereon, comprises adding a flux to the composite material so that each weight ratio of Al2O3, SiO2 and CaO in the obtained mixture can be in the ranges of 20 to 50 wt.% (Al2O3), 25 to 40 wt.% (SiO2) and 25 to 40 wt.% (CaO), based on 100 wt.% in the total of them, and the ratio of the weight of the platinum group metal in the mixture and iron in the mixture containing iron originating in the composite material and the flux based on the total weight can be in the range of 1:1 to 1:20; heating the mixture in a furnace under a reduction condition to melt it; and separating an obtained alloy layer containing the platinum group metal and iron from the obtained slag layer containing an oxide.
