A method for recovering platinum and palladium comprises: a step of contacting the nitric acid solution containing platinum, palladium, silver and copper with an organic phase containing trioctylphosphine oxide or trioctylmethylammonium nitrate as an extractant, thereby selectively extracting platinum and palladium from the nitric acid solution into the organic phase; and a step of reducing and precipitating platinum and palladium by adding a reducing agent to the organic phase after the extraction treatment of platinum and palladium in the previous step, thereby recovering platinum and palladium.
