To provide a method for separating and recovering, on an occasion for separating and recovering ruthenium from an aqueous alkali solution including ruthenium, the method being economically in a high recovery ratio based on a simple operation without using methanol or ethanol which is a hazardous substance having a high volatility and exerting strong adverse effects onto human bodies.
On an occasion for separating and recovering ruthenium from an aqueous alkali solution including ruthenium, the ruthenium is separated and recovered as a hydroxide precipitate by adding, as a reductant, sodium sulfite to a ruthenium-containing aqueous alkali solution whose liquid temperature is being maintained at 40°C or above and 60°C or below. A ruthenium recovery ratio of 99.90% or higher is realized at a liquid temperature of 40°C or above, and a ruthenium recovery ratio higher than that of a methanol or ethanol reduction scheme is achieved.
