Abstract:

To obtain a method capable of efficiently separating and recovering ruthenium from scraps containing the ruthenium.

In the method for recovering the ruthenium from scraps containing the ruthenium, powdery scrap is mixed with sodium chloride by 1 to 7 times the amount required for soluble chlorination reaction of the ruthenium and carbon powder by 0.5 to 12 times the amount to be required, the mixture is heated at 700 to 850C in a chlorine gas atmosphere to obtain a soluble ruthenium salt. An oxidizer as sodium bromate is added to the one obtained by dissolving the soluble ruthenium salt into water to convert the ruthenium into ruthenium tetraoxide, and the ruthenium tetraoxide is oxidized and distilled, thus the ruthenium is refined and recovered into a hydrochloric acid solution.
