To provide a method for recovering zinc from zinc-containing powdery material by which the recovered material having high zinc concn. and little variation of the concn. in a day can be obtd. by using a vertical type smelting reduction furnace.
In the inner part of the vertical type smelting reduction furnace having plural tuyeres 3, 3' arranged at plural stages in the vertical direction for blowing high temp. air, a filled layer 5 of carbon-base solid reducing agent is formed and the zinc-containing powdery material is blown into the filled layer from at least the tuyeres except the lowermost tuyere. Further, auxiliary fuel 16 is blown from the tuyere blowing the zinc-containing powdery material and/or the tuyere not blowing the zinc-containing powdery material, to execute the reduction-refining of the zinc-containing powdery material. When the zinc is recovered from the exhaust gas, shredder dust and/or waste plastics are used for the auxiliary fuel.
