Abstract:

PURPOSE: To carry out recovery, storage and supply of tritium gas with single apparatus, by recovering tritium gas from a gaseous mixture by the hydrogenation reaction of an intermetallic compound ZrCo near room temperature, storing the tritium gas as a hydride and thermally decomposing the hydride to tritium gas.

CONSTITUTION: An intermetallic compound ZrCo or an alloy 1 composed mainly thereof is placed in a closed vessel 6 interposing a heat-resistant filter 2. A gas containing tritium is introduced through an inlet 4 into the vessel 6, passed through ZrCo or the alloy 1 composed mainly thereof and discharged from the outlet 4. Hydrogenation reaction of ZrCo takes place and the tritium is recovered in ZrCo or the alloy 1 composed mainly thereof. The tritium is stored by closing the inlet 4 and the outlet 5. When the ZrCo is heated at about 400°C by electrifying a heater 3 and the outlet 5 is opened, tritium gas is supplied from the outlet 5.
