To provide a method for recycling aluminum from a scrapped copper product by which, in the case of recovering aluminum from a scrapped copper product by a crushing method, mixing of substantial amounts of other metals, such as copper and iron, as impurities in the resultant separated aluminum can be prevented.
In this method, aluminum is recovered by separation from a scrapped copper product constituted by joining a 1,000 series aluminum alloy material having ≥99.00% Al purity regulated by AA or JIS standard to a copper material to recycle the resultant separated aluminum as a melting material for a malleable aluminum alloy material. By crushing a scrapped heat exchanger, separating and selecting fine aluminum pieces from the resultant crushed pieces, and then cleaning the fine aluminum pieces with a ≥20% aqueous solution of concentrated nitric acid, copper and other metals are removed so that the composition obtained when the fine aluminum pieces alone are melted can satisfy the above AA or JIS standard.
