Abstract:
To provide: a processing method which allows valuables to be efficiently collected from a lithium ion battery in a simple and convenient manner; and a good-quality metal material for nickel metal hydride batteries or a metal material for hydrogen storage, which includes collected valuables.SOLUTION: A method for processing lithium ion batteries in which a positive electrode having an Al-containing current collector and a positive electrode active material layer containing a lithium transition metal composite oxide containing Ni and/or Co as a positive electrode active material, a negative electrode having a Cu-containing current collector and a negative electrode active material layer, and an electrolyte are encased in a battery case comprises the steps of: discharging the lithium ion batteries in such a manner that a quantity of elution of the Cu is 0.02 mass% or less to a mass of the positive electrode; dismantling the lithium ion batteries to collect the positive electrodes subsequently to the discharge; and obtaining the metal material containing Ni and/or Co from the collected positive electrodes.SELECTED DRAWING: None
