Abstract:

To provide a continuous casting method of spring steel, which method can reduce central segregation based on specific operational conditions.

The central segregation of the spring steel containing 0.55 to 0.65 wt.% of C. 1.30 to 2.10 wt.% of Si, 0.40 to 1.10 wt.% of Mn, and 0.10 to 0.70 wt.% of Cr is reduced as follows. The thickness D of a casting mold is set to 350 to 410 mm. The casting speed Vc is set to 0.50 to 0.65 m/min. The specific water content Wt is set to 0.25 to 1.00 L/kgSteel. The degree T of super heating is set to 10 to 45C. The gradient GRD of a roll in a meniscus length M of 10.0 to 22.3 m is set to 0.0 to 5.0 mm/m. The gradient GRD of the roll in a meniscus length M of 22.3 to 25.9 m is set to 0.5 to 3.0 mm/m. The gradient GRD of the roll in a meniscus length M of 25.9 to 27.5 m is set to 1.0 to 2.0 mm/m. The gradient GRD of the roll in a meniscus length M of 27.5 to 32.3 m is set to 0.5 to 1.5 mm/m.
