Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a method for reducing nitrous oxide content so that a booster pump can be omitted without contamination of a compressor and an inter cooler.
CONSTITUTION: This engine comprises a prime mover having at least one cylinder 5 and a group of superchargers consisting of turbines and a compressor 2. The cylinder 5 is supplied with air by the group of superchargers during compression stroke and fuel is injected to the cylinder 5 at the end of the compression stroke. At least 5% to 40% at most, preferably 20% at most, of exhaust gas generated in the cylinder 5 during combustion action is maintained in the cylinder 5. The portion of the exhaust gas maintained therein is mixed with fresh air which flows in during the next compression stroke, with the result that the concentration of oxygen in the cylinder 5 decreases.
