PURPOSE: To improve the energy utilizing efficiency of the whole system by roasting limestone with gas generated from a melting and reducing furnace of top and bottom blowing converter type in equipment consisting of a prereducing furnace and the melting and reducing furnace.
CONSTITUTION: A prereducing furnace such as a rotary kiln is combined with a melting and reducing furnace of top and bottom blowing converter type. Limestone is converted into quick lime as a flux by heating and roasting with gas generated from the melting and reducing furnace. An iron alloy is manufactured by melting and reduction using the flux (quick lime), ore, a carbonaceous material, an oxidizing gas, etc. as starting materials. The energy utilizing efficiency of the whole system is improved.
