Abstract:

To obtain zinc in which the content of carbon is reduced, and further to obtain high purity silicon, in which the content of carbon is reduced, by a zinc reduction method using the zinc having a low carbon content.

In a method for refining zinc, raw material zinc having a carbon content of ≥1.5 ppma is melted and held at 720 to 870°C for 30 to 600 min in the presence of an inert gas to reduce the content of carbon in the raw material zinc. A method for producing high purity silicon depends on a zinc reduction method using the zinc obtained by the method for refining zinc.
