To provide a method which shows an excellent effect of having reformed a rolling forming face of a rolling die, by subjecting the rolling die to all steps of shot peening treatment, nitriding treatment and oxidation treatment.

This rolling die is subjected to reforming surface treatment in order of the ion nitriding treatment, the shot peening treatment and the oxidation treatment. Then, the forming face acquires high hardness due to a nitrided diffusion layer formed through the ion nitriding treatment, obtains excellent abrasion resistance due to a work hardening effect by the shot peening treatment, in combination with the above hardening effect, and furthermore, improves fatigue strength due to residual compression stress caused by the shot peening treatment. The ion nitriding treatment forms a thinner nitrogen compound layer than that formed by salt-bath nitriding treatment on the surface, and accordingly imparts excellent chipping resistance and breaking resistance to the surface. The shot peening treatment imparts an adequate residual compression stress to the surface. The oxidation treatment is performed after the shot peening treatment, and accordingly can impart a sufficient improvement effect on welding resistance and seizure resistance to the surface, while inhibiting the decrease of the residual compression stress.
