PURPOSE: To effectively remove COS and to obtain S by sending a COS-contg. gas together with a solvent mixture consisting of N-methyl--caprolactam and water and SO2 to an adsorption apparatus and making a coarse crystalline sulfur.
CONSTITUTION: The crude gas contg. the COS flows together with the SO2 from a conduit 1 into an absorption column 10, where the gas is brought into contact with the solvent mixture composed of the N-methyl--caprolactam and water, and the COS is absorbed and decomposed. The generated H2S reacts with the SO2 to form the coarse crystalline sulfur. The refined gas is taken out of a conduit 3. The sulfur suspension is sent from the absorption column 10 to a centrifuge 6 by which the sulfur is separated. The solvent mixture is circulated through a regulation vessel 7 to the absorption column 10.
