Title:
METHOD FOR REMOVING CLADDING OF OPTICAL FIBER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS62244586
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To remove the cladding of only the necessary front end part in a short period and to prevent the decrease of strand strength by irradiating laser light to the front end of an optical fiber having the polyimide primary cladding and removing the cladding.

CONSTITUTION: The laser light 5 is irradiated to the front end of the optical fiber 2 having the polyimide primary cladding from a laser irradiation port 4, then the polyimide cladding of a short size at the front end of the fiber 2 is easily evaporated and removed. On the other hand, a quartz optical fiber remains as it is without adversely affected at all. The safety of the operation is thereby assured without using chemicals and the irradiation for a short time is limited only to the front end part where the removal of the cladding is required.
