Abstract:

To provide a method for refining a liquid heat exchange fluid.

A contact container is used in combination with a refining apparatus in order to control the precipitation of a metal hydride in a process high in the permeability of hydrogen. The contact container receives the slip stream of a circulating liquid metal stream and provides a large interfacial surface area and temperature sufficient to decompose the hydride under vacuum to remove hydrogen from molten hydride. A liquid metal of which the hydride level is lowered is refluxed to the circulating heat exchange stream or hydride is sedimented and filtered by a cold trap to further refine the liquid metal.
