Abstract:

To provide a method of removing mercury, capable of effectively removing the mercury even if an acid material or an alkali material is contained in a liquid hydrocarbon.

In a first treating step, a liquid hydrocarbon that contains acid or alkali material inhibiting mercury from being removed is brought into contact with an activated clay to remove from the liquid hydrocarbon, the material inhibiting the mercury from being removed. In a subsequent second treating step, the liquid hydrocarbon subjected to the first treating step is brought into contact with an activated carbon to remove the mercury from the liquid hydrocarbon.
