To separate two liquid phases different in density from each other in a centrifugal separator.
Before the contaminated oil is supplied to a separation chamber 6, the separation chamber 6 is pre-charged with a starting liquid being water or a liquid separation aid so that a liquid seal for covering a heavy phase outlet 10 is formed in a centrifugal rotor 2. Then, the contaminated oil and the liquid separation aid are supplied into the separation chamber 6 and at least a part of the starting liquid and particles are discharged together with the liquid separation aid separated from the oil from the separation chamber 6 through the heavy phase outlet 10. The liquid separation aid has the density higher than that of the contaminated oil, is not dissolved in the contaminated oil, is a liquid polymer and is dissolved in water or includes water.
