Abstract:

PURPOSE: To remove especially cholesterol from milkfat efficiently by using certain adsorbent of absorbent to edible liquid fat/oil to remove sterol.

CONSTITUTION: Sterol of about 50% or over is removed from fat or oil by keeping edible fat and/or edible oil in a liquid state and processing the fat and/or oil with an adsorbent or an absorbent selected from (A)(i) ≥20% w/w of carbon, or (ii) ≥1% w/w of activated carbon, (B) a carbon impregnated with a metal salt including zinc sulphate, zinc nitrate, zinc chloride, calcium chloride, manganese nitrate, manganese sulphate, or manganese chloride, etc., or (C) a carbon impregnated by water-soluble or alcohol soluble organic compounds selected from amides and nucleotides, or (D) an adsorbing material such as porous glass, ceramic, plastic or alumina, and silica.
