Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a method and a device for variable resolution adaptive image compression in which the image quality is enhanced with respect to compression. CONSTITUTION: A moving image is sequentially stored in a 1st frame memory 2. An encoder 100 reduces a moving image stored in the 1st frame memory 2 in the unit of frames, a difference image between the obtained reduced image and the image processed precedingly is obtained and the compression mode of a current frame is selected depending on the obtained difference image and the reduced image or the difference image is compressed and then outputted. Moreover, the compressed image is expanded into the original state to provide an output of an error with the original image. A VLC 3 converts an output of the encoder 100 into a bit stream through the variable length coding. Since it is not required to obtain a motion vector, the arithmetic operation is simplified and the configuration for the arithmetic operation is simplified to reduce the cost, and the resolution is varied to improve the bit rate, when the image quality is improved.
