PURPOSE: To provide a method for retarding the combustion of a mosquito- repellent incense, an incense for a household Buddhist altar, etc., capable of reducing an amount of an incense base by decreasing a combustion rate compared with a conventional incense, securing a combustion (smoking) time similar to or longer than that of the conventional incense without extinguishing the fire of the incense despite of the smaller amount and the smaller size of the incense than those of the conventional incense and improving the volatility of an active ingredient and to obtain an incense unit.

CONSTITUTION: This incense unit comprises an incense 1 such as a mosquito- repellent incense, an incense for a household Buddhist altar, etc., having <100mm/hr combustion rate of an incense base and ≤1.6g/hr combustion weight and a combustion container 2 having a part to hold the incense, composed of a noncombustible or flame-retardant sheet 3. The incense is burnt in a contact state with a noncombustible or flame-retardant material. The sectional area of the incense is preferably set in the range of 3-18mm2.
