To provide a method of retarding growth of microorganisms, capable of preventing active ingredients from decreasing, and capable of sterilizing a medium in a large amount.
This method of retarding growth of microorganisms comprises impressing electric potential on the medium containing periodic acid, iodic acid or their salts.
