Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent the generation of waving in the tip part of flange by estimating and calculating the critical waving stress in the tip part of flange, determining the thickness at the tip of clamp so that the critical waving stress is larger than the compressive stress in the longitudinal direction and forming taper in the flange part.
CONSTITUTION: Critical waving stress dσCR=K2.(tfB/F)2 is presented, wherein tfB: thickness at the tip of flange, F: one-side width of flange, K2: a constant that is experimentally determined. Because flange taper is determined from a disired average thickness of flange (the average of tip thickness and root thickness), one-side width of flange and tip thickness of flange, flange taper is decided when the tip thickness of flange that waving isn't generate in the tip part of flange is determined. An intermediate base stock 15b which is rolled with a universal mill U and edger mill E is made to bend its flanges outward with a flange bending and forming device S and formed into an intermediate finish rolled stock 16. Next it is finished into the shape 17 of the final product of continuous joint type shapes with a finishing mill.
