To reduce the probability of miss-roll and the partial wear of a roll in a universal mill by omitting one or more passes of rolling by a finish universal mill in a reverse rolling for shape steel.
The reverse rollings for about 7-13 times are applied to a rolling base stock having square cross section and raising the temp. in a heating furnace 23 with a brake down mill BD to execute a rough rolling. The reverse rollings are applied to this intermediate rolled material based on pass schedule with an intermediate universal mill UR, quick shift edger mill QE and the finish universal mill OF. At that time, in the first rolling of one to two times, the rolling is executed by using the intermediate universal mill UR and the quick shift edger mill QE and in rolling thereafter, the reverse rollings are executed by using the intermediate universal mill UR, quick shift edger mill QE and the finish universal mill UF. Further, the omission of the rolling pass of the finishing universal mill UF is intermittently executed to execute the reverse rollings.
