To provide a method for screening a diabetes preventive and ameliorative agent, allowing to find a novel diabetes preventive and ameliorative agent and to further provide a method for screening a diabetes preventive and ameliorative agent different from conventional diabetes preventive and ameliorative agents, i.e., a method for screening a diabetes preventive and ameliorative agent by a novel action mechanism different from an action of insulin.
The method for screening a diabetes preventive and ameliorative agent is characterized in that screening is conducted using a glucose transporter 2 (GLUT2) in a membrane fraction of hepatocyte as a target molecule. A problem is solved by the method for screening a diabetes preventive and ameliorative agent, in which screening is conducted by evaluating the presence or absence or the extent of increase in level of expression of GLUT2 in a membrane fraction of hepatocyte of a target and the kit for screening a diabetes preventive and ameliorative agent using the method.
