Abstract:

To provide an improved method of machining a flat work piece surface as a method of adjusting applied force for controlling a material removal rate on a work piece.

A load providing device 14 includes a means 20 for sensing the force applied to the work piece 12 by the load providing device and also the position of the load providing device 14. The sense force applied and sensed position of the load providing device 14 are transmitted to a master controller 22 such that the master controller 22 adjusts the force applied to the work piece, based on the data to produce the target surface characteristic of the work piece 12.
