PURPOSE: To separate and recover 2-chloro-4-fluorotoluene in high purity and good yield by adsorption separating the 2-chloro-4-fluorotoluene from a mixture of chlorofluorotoluene isomers using a specific adsorbent.
CONSTITUTION: 2-Chloro-4-fluorotoluene (2C4FT) is adsorbed and separated from a mixture of chlorofluorotoluene (CFT) isomers in a solvent (e.g. fluorobenzene) at ambient temperature to 350°C under the atmospheric pressure to 50kg/cm2.G pressure using Ba-substituted X-type faujasite type zeolite or Na-substituted Y-type faujasite type zeolite as an adsorbent. The 2C4FT is useful as a synthetic intermediate for medicines. The effects of this invention are more exhibited when a mixture of isomers containing various isomers (e.g. 2-chloro-5-fluorotoluene or 3-chloro-6-fluorotoluene) in addition to the 2C4FT is used as the mixture of the CFT isomers.
