PURPOSE: To remove such toxic matter as dioxins by contacting a gas to be treated with an aerosol, electrically charging the particles and then separating the particles.

CONSTITUTION: The waste gas of a refuse incinerator, etc. contg. dioxins and like highly toxic, organic contaminants is brought into contact with a liq. aerosol over a predetermined period of time to remove the toxic matter. Subsequently, the particles in the aerosol are electrically charged, and the particles are separated in an electrostatic field. In this case, although water is the best as the aerosol forming particles, the water should be neutralized with alkali since the water absorbs the acidic component in the treated gas. The toxic matter is easily removed by such a constitution.
