Title:
METHOD FOR SEPARATING AND EXTRACTING NUCLEAR FUEL MATERIAL AND RARE EARTH ELEMENT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH07179959
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a method capable of easily separating and extracting not only a nuclear fuel material, such as thorium, but a rare earth element as well from a raw material contg. the nuclear fuel material.

CONSTITUTION: Plural bar-shaped electrodes 1, 2, 3, 1A, 2A, 3A are arranged in such a manner that their front ends exist in proximity to each other. Multiphase ACs are supplied to these plural electrodes and arc flames 6 are spouted out of the front ends 4 of the electrodes. The raw material contg. the nuclear fuel material and the rare earth element is irradiated with such arc flames 6 to directly form a melt 31 of the nuclear fuel material and a melt 32 of the rare earth element gravity-separated thereon from the raw material. The raw material contg. either of the nuclear fuel material or the rare earth element is equally well. The evaporation of the melt 32 by irradiating the melt 32 of the rare earth element with the arc flames 6 is an equally good practice. Cooling of the vapor of the rare earth element with a no-noxidizing atmosphere to obtain the powder of the rare earth element is also an equally good alternative.
