To provide a technology capable of easily separating and recovering an aluminum or aluminum alloy member and an iron or iron alloy member from composite waste contg. an aluminum or aluminum alloy member and an iron or iron alloy member such as a steel can with an aluminum or alumi num alloy cover.
Composite waste contg. an aluminum or aluminum alloy member and an iron or iron alloy member is dipped into a molten aluminum or aluminum alloy bath, which is stirred, the aluminum or aluminum alloy in the composite waste is selectively melted, the iron or iron alloy member is left as solid component, and both are separated. The bath temp. is controlled to the one equal to or above the m.p. of the aluminum or aluminum alloy and also to the one below the m.p. of the iron or iron alloy and is preferably 700 to 900°C. When a strong magnet is charged to the inside of the bath, and stirring is executed, the iron or iron alloy member can be separated and recovered by magnetization, and it is preferable.
