To remarkably improve separation accuracy by equipping an electrostatic separator for separating fine grains obtd. by classifying a granular material to be separated being a mixture of ≥2 kinds of materials having different properties by a classifier by particle size into electrically conductive grains and insulating grains based on the difference in electrical property.
The separating object having various grain diameters in first classified by particle size by a firs classifier 15 before feeding it to an electrostatic separator 12 to limit the particle size distribution of the object in a specified narrow range. The fine grain thus obtained is charged into the electrostatic separator 12, and hence the distribution of electrostatic charge amount of each is narrowed. Consequently, the electrostatic force on the grain of the same material are equalized, and the separation accuracy is improved. Since the object separated by the first separator 15 is charged into the electrostatic separator 12, the dispersion of the grain diameters is comparatively small, and the object is effectively separated in a dry state.
