Abstract:

PURPOSE: To enable a given crystalline polyolefin dissolved in a solvent to be stably separated from the solvent over long without cooling the solution, by passing the solution through a layer of an irregularly packed packing material under specific conditions to deposit the polyolefin on the packing material.
CONSTITUTION: A crystalline polyolefin having a weight-average mol.wt of 1,000 or higher (e.g. ultra-high-mol.wt. PE) and dissolved in a solvent (e.g. n- decane) is passed through an irregularly packed packing material (e.g. a layer of household scrubbing stainless-steel brushes) at the shear rate represented by the equation.
