Abstract:

PURPOSE: To easily separate and recover toluene diisocyanate contained in the residues of the production process by treating the residue with an inert gas.

CONSTITUTION: The residue composed of 5-100 wt.% of a mixture of 95-50 wt.% of toluene diisocyanate(TDI) and 5-50 wt.% of a heavy product and 10-95 wt.% of a diluent is separated. The separation operation is carried out at 100°C or lower and 73-500 bar using inert gas of liquid or supercritical carbon dioxide. The extraction with carbon dioxide is conducted in the presence of a coextractant diluent selected from diluents for a phosgenation reaction such as toluene. An extract agent can be the same/different with/from the diluent used in an error reaction.
