To separate Streptomyces having high wood decomposing ability and effectively usable in the fields of industrial waste-treating industries, soil conditioning, etc., from enteric microbes of xylophagous insects by culturing and separating the enteric microbes derived from the xylophagous insects in de-fatted wood flour-containing media.
Xylophagous Streptomyces, preferably microorganisms belonging to the genus Streptomyces, especially Streptomyces eurythermus CA1 strain (FERM P-17249 or Streptomyces eurythermus CA2 strain (FERM P-17250) strain are separated by culturing enteric microbes from xylophagous insects, preferably enteric microbes from termites, especially from coptotermes in media containing de-fatted wood meal, preferably in media containing solely organic solvent- treated wood flours as a nutrient and separating the microbes.
