A permanent wave agent is applied to the hair first and then the hair is adjusted to a treatment shape. The treatment shape is the shape in which the hair is uniformly exposed to warm air from the tip area of the hair to the root area of the hair in the procedure of applying air to the hair by the warm air. For instance, in order to form a permanent wave, the hair is wound in the treatment shape corresponding to a hollow cylindrical shape so as to act not only from the inner side jacket of a hollow cylinder but also from an outer side jacket. After warm air treatment, the permanent wave agent is rinsed off, the hair is loosened and a desired final shape is obtained.
