To obtain a simple and easily readable document having fine appearance by including a process for dividing a character string into two lines on a position where is between dividable characters and where specific conditions are satisfied.
In process A, division information including whether two adjacent characters can be divided or not is regulated based upon mutual character sorts. In process B, the reference value, maximum extended length and maximum reduced length of an interval between two adjacent characters are regulated based upon the mutual character sorts and regulates priority for adjusting the arrangement between these characters. In process C, a character string is divided into two lines on a position where is between dividable characters and where a certain equation is satisfied. In a process D, the interval between the adjacent characters is adjusted by extending or reducing it from the reference value within the maximum extended length or the minimum reduced length in accordance with the priority regulated by the process B in each line divided by the process C so that final character in the line is arranged on the end of the line. In the equation, (j) expresses an integer of 1 to (m) when a character string consists of (m) characters.
